Te doy la vida - Cap 7 - April 21, 2020

NOTE: Screencapping is a whole different animal using the Univision site. They won't be as plentiful as I used to do in previous Caray recaps!

We come in on continued rejoicing over the transplant taking hold. Pedro is congratulated by the whole garage, and Elena calls Ernesto at the office and they both share their joy on the phone.

Ernesto goes in to tell Horacio and there is more rejoicing at the office.

Finally some joy (and dimples!) for Ernesto

After Ernesto leaves, Horacio is so elated that he loses his composure and kisses the hand of Monica (the younger "other woman") for a moment. Both of them remember where they are as they pretend this is all business.

Samuel and Gabriela are walking together when Gabriela gets the news. She's elated as she tells Samuel, "Our nephew is going to be okay!"

Domingo interrupts Nelson doing some weird OCD thing with measuring how far the toy cars are from the edge of the table in his oficina.  Domingo tells him the great news and Nelson is happy. As soon as Domingo leaves, he rushes back to measuring!

So weird...

Ernesto rushes in to see Nico and Nico knows he's getting better. He makes this point of saying that the cap he is wearing is from a friend of Mom's named "Esther" and that she loves him very much. It's like everywhere Ernesto turns, someone is reminding him of Pedro and his family. Especially Nico, who seems to remember every detail that pertains to Pedro. Ernesto tries to focus on being happy that Nico is getting better.

Pedro comes home to tell Esther the good news. She's so excited and says she's going to make Dr. Vega a cake!

Ernesto finds Elena and chews her out for letting Nico wear the cap. It's not the cap, per se, but it's that she's still allowing that family in the life of Nico. She is annoyed with Ernesto and can't understand why he gives a crap about this when what really matters is that Nico is getting better!

Samuel and Gabriella are eating at a restaurant. After more chatting about Nico, Samuel and Gabriella discuss Samuel's worry about being "discovered" by Ernesto (working for Elena and her sisters). He just doesn't want trouble. Gabriella says that it's very rare for Ernesto to come by the business, not to worry. (You know that this must mean that Ernesto will visit the business immediately, right?)

Gina is having dinner with her dad, Nelson. She talks about seeing a doctor (? not sure what this pertains to) then whines about how Pedro is indifferent to her. Nelson makes some vague comments about women and relationships (couldn't catch all of this) but I think he was thinking of his own situation (with Esther) for a moment which confused Gina. He tells her that Elena is a married woman and no rival for Pedro's affections and let's eat.

Samuel brings Gabriela home and she meets Esther, who is more than happy to meet anyone from the family of Nico! She's warm and welcoming. Esther invites Gabriela to stay for coffee. Samuel assumes she's busy, but Gabriela is freeee as a bird and wants to stick around! Esther goes off to do something and Gabriela and Samuel are alone in the house. She finds a photo album and notices a picture of Pedro as a kid. He's identical to Nico!

Gina drops by, sees Pedro is not there, but notices Gabriella. She leaves quickly. This gives opportunity for Samuel to gossip about Gina's and Pedro's big break up and the scandal behind it.

Gina sees Esther on the street, they chat, Gina tries to suck up a bit, Esther isn't buying it. 

Elena sees Ernesto at the hospital. Nico is getting stronger and feeling better! Ernesto is still in a bad mood. She doesn't get it but he says that this family of Pedro is going to be a problem. (Or something like that...)

Back with Esther, Gabriela and Samuel. Gabriela tells Esther that she was studying communications (but she was also interested in psychology?) but she is currently helping her family business. Samuel has to go study and Gabriela says she's gotta go too. She leaves without her little jacket, which remains on the chair. After she leaves, Esther not-so-subtly asks Samuel if she as a boyfriend, which embarrasses Samuel. She thinks Gabriella is the best!

Gina chases down Pedro at a pool hall to apologize, talk about how ashamed she is of the scene she made, how she knows she was jealous. She's really happy that Nico is doing okay. Pedro accepts her apology and thanks her for coming, but doesn't give her the reconciliation she obviously was hoping for. Another mechanic (Augustin) is noticing all of this. I think he likes Gina.

Gabriela and Elena at home, rejoicing over the good news about Nico. Then Elena warns Gabriela that Ernesto MUST NOT find out that Samuel works for them, Ernesto doesn't understand how harmless this all is and he's already so touchy about that family, yadda yadda. Gabriela isn't too worried that he'll find out. 

Sisterly hug.

Pedro walks by Samuel's room (where he is doing homework) and asks a favor of Samuel. He knows Gabriela is a nice girl but that he (Pedro) promised Elena that they'd all stay away from her family. "It's better for everyone." Pedro says it's enough to know that Nico is going to be okay. Samuel is befuddled by all of this.

"It's better for everyone" (We'll see how long that lasts!)

Later, Domingo finds out (because of the left-behind sweater) that Gabriela was there. Esther enthusiastically praises her. They had such a good visit! Domingo pops a cork. "It's bad enough that you work for their company! We can't have them coming to the house too! Don't you understand we must have nothing to do with that family!" He's sick of all of this! He yells at Esther and she yells back. Samuel continues to look befuddled.

Elena goes to see Pedro at the garage to thank him... he starts in with this whole thing about how he can't stop thinking about her, it's become much more than about Nico, yadda yadda. She's uncomfortable and reminds him that she's a MARRIED WOMAN. He says he knows but he just can't get her out of his head no matter how hard he tries! She makes a hasty retreat. 

DUDE. Too soon! Too soon! What are you thinking!?!

See?!? It says it right there is plain Español! She's a married woman! (mujer casada). (By the way, this is what my subtitles look like on my desktop computer. Not fun. They're better on my phone, though.)

Right after that, Pedro is beating himself up for being such an idiot and saying what he did. Augustin (the friend who I think likes Gina) is trying to get him to calm down. Nelson watches them talking from his office.

Samuel is trying to comfort his mom Esther because Domingo was a grumpy old goat to her. She wonders if he loves her anymore. Samuel tells her to not talk like that, he's sure dad still adores her as much as ever! After Samuel leaves the room, she gets a call from Domingo which she doesn't answer.

"Oh come on, Ma!"

Elena and Ernesto at the hospital changing shifts (keeping Nico company): They are decidedly chilly with each other. Ernesto kisses her and she's a cold fish about it. As soon as Ernesto leaves, she calls up her sister Irene because she wants to chat. Sis will come right away.

At the garage, Domingo has a dizzy spell. This does not look good, but he blows it off when the other workers are concerned. He complains about Esther's stubbornness in wanting to see Nico. 

Nelson walks up to Augustin in the garage. He's off to do some business but sees Pedro stomp around in a huff and asks what's up. Augustin, who knows everything, says he knows nothing. He gets these buggy eyes because he knows that Pedro's lusting after a married woman after dumping Nelson's daughter! Oh hell no, Augustin is not getting in the middle of that!

At the hospital, Nico is in bed without his cap. He's telling Elena something about an elephant (FF>>) but then he finishes up by saying the she is the best mom in the world and Ernesto is the best dad. She's so happy to hear that.

Back to the Gossip Garage, Augustine warns Pedro that Nelson asked him what was up and Augustine assured Pedro that he said nothing... Pedro says sulkily that he'll never get back with Gina because he can't get Elena out of his heart. Augustine says you have no chance, dude. 

Elena unburdens her heart to the most wrong person—her sister Irene, who is lapping all this gossip up. Elena says that Pedro somehow got his wires crossed and is thinking he's in love with her. But she's a married woman! She never did anything to encourage him! Irene astutely says that maybe she didn't say anything, but her attitude is a different matter. Is she in love with Pedro? Has her gratitude to Pedro converted to something else? Elena wonders what's going on. She's loves and respects her family! (I didn't understand all of this here but it sounds like Elena isn't denying she feels something for Pedro.) She takes her leave after thanking Irene for listening. Irene looks like the cat that ate the canary after this conversation.

Back at the garage, Gina texts Pedro some simple greeting. He shakes his head and ignores it.

At the family business, Samuel is working when GUESS WHO comes in but Ernesto! They collide into each other and Ernesto gets coffee all over Samuel. Ernesto is very polite and apologetic and almost gets Samuel's name out of him but Irene comes just in time to rescue him and divert Ernesto. Dodged a bullet, Samuel!

If you only knew who you just bumped into, Ernesto!

Samuel quickly finds Gabriela to tell her what happened. She tells him not to worry but also chases him out of the building so he can't be discovered later.

Ernesto spills his guts to Irene as soon as they're alone. Of course since this is a crucial conversation I had a little trouble with the nuances... but he's complaining about the presence of Pedro in their lives and how he's afraid Pedro is going to unravel everything. He thinks Pedro is an opportunist. Irene twists the knife a little by commenting that Pedro is handsome. Ernesto doesn't know why Pedro and his family keep on appearing and Irene suggests that maybe Elena doesn't want to discourage this. I think Ernesto vows to do anything he can to protect his family and thanks Irene for listening. She has another cat-that-ate-the-canary expression and a creepy smile when Ernesto gives her a brother-in-law hug.

Gabriela sees Ernesto leaving. She calls Samuel to tell him the coast is clear. Right after, he gets a call from Rosa at the garage. She wants to talk to him! He says he'll see her soon. Meanwhile, Gabriela has some event she's going to that evening and invites Samuel. But he can't go because of Rosa. She seems okay with it, says she'll call and invite someone named Sergio instead. When he leaves her face falls. She doesn't make any other calls.

Domingo comes home to Esther with a big bouquet of flowers. "Will you forgive me?" he says, with worry on his face. She gives him a little crap but then laughs and says "Of course I will, you're the love of my life!" All is well again. But she just wants him to not crush her dreams about Nico. He tells her that really, it's better that they not have false hope. She quiets down. Then he sniffs out that she's prepared his favorite dish. But she says he only gets two enchiladas, not three! He whines like a little boy.

Samuel is walking with Rosa and I think she's apologizing for rejecting him the way she did but she was taken by surprise. I think she's telling him that she's in a difficult relationship that she's trying to extract herself from and asks if he'll wait. He asks how long and she jokes, "One or two years?" He laughs and says that he can have a one or two novias (girlfriends) as he waits. They laugh and go to a movie.

Irene comes home to Gabriella and they gossip about Ernesto and Elena. Then Gabriella talks about how poor Samuel is paranoid about Ernesto finding out he works there. I missed some of this, but it appears Gabriella is not worried that anything will happen while Irene is taking it more seriously.

Pedro is learning English by reading aloud from a document on his laptop. He is barely comprehensible. I feel less self-conscious about my incomprehensible Spanish. Gina comes in, tells him she can't live without him, and presses a lip-lock on him which he does not resist.

At the hospital, Ernesto meets Elena outside of Nico's room. Nico's doing well. She blurts out that she wants to make things better. All that matters is his happiness and Nico. He sounds so relieved. They embrace and have a passionate lip-lock of their own.
